Turkey is prepared to give water to southern Cyprus similarly as it has toward the north of the island, Ankara’s Ankara’s forestry and water affairs minister said.
Veysel Eroglu was talking amid the fourth Istanbul International Water Forum Discussion held under the subject of ‘Water and Peace’.
“Some are asking: ‘Won’t you offer water to southern Cyprus?’ In the event that they [southern Cypriots] approach us one stage, we will go to them running,” Eroglu said.
“On the off chance that they need peace, we are prepared to take water toward the south also – if our administration thinks of it as suitable – in light of the fact that mankind requires this,” he included.
As of late, Turkey exchanged 75 million cubic meters of crisp water per annum from Turkey to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The venture is to keep going for the following 50 years.
The main stream of new water from Turkey to the TRNC was sent in October 2015 and has proceeded with unabated from that point forward.
Cyprus was partitioned into a Turkish Cypriot state in the north and a Greek Cypriot organization in the south after an Enosis-enlivened 1974 military upset was trailed by brutality against the island’s Turkish individuals, and Turkey’s mediation as an underwriter control.
