The chances of Patrick Bamford leaving Leeds United become clearer.

Despite a difficult few years at Elland Road, Patrick Bamford is set to stay with Leeds United until the summer transfer market closes.

According to Football Insider, despite being overlooked by Daniel Farke in Leeds’ first two games of the season, the 30-year-old is expected to stay at the club until at least January.

Bamford has appeared in both of the new season’s opening league games, albeit only as a substitute, going on for the final ten minutes in draws against Portsmouth and West Bromwich Albion.

He played the entire 90 minutes against Middlesbrough in the Carabao Cup, but couldn’t stop the Teessiders from winning 3-0 in emphatic form.

The former Chelsea player, who has one senior cap for England, has only 14 league goals in the last three seasons, with injuries and erratic form jeopardising his hopes of returning to the Premier League.

Bamford should be ready off the bench.
Bamford played 33 times in the Championship in 2023/24, but has been forced to sit out the first few league games this season, with Mateo Joseph taking over as starting striker.

Despite his current form, the 30-year-old was dominant in his first Premier League season with Leeds, scoring 17 goals and starting all but one of the Whites’ 38 games.

However, he must now learn to make an impact from the bench and seize opportunities as they arise.

He has a strained connection with the fervent Leeds fans, but getting back on the scoreboard and playing at the levels he has previously demonstrated will help to mend any rifts.

He also faces competition from Joel Piroe and Joe Gelhardt, both of whom are younger than him. Bamford will have to work harder to establish that he can still lead Leeds back to the Premier League.

Leeds’ play-off final defeat to Southampton in May cost them more than just promotion, as Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville have already left the club, while Georginio Rutter is close to joining Brighton & Hove Albion.

Bamford, while no longer the player he once was, has experience with promotion and could be valuable as the season progresses.

On a brighter note, a year after it appeared virtually inevitable that he would leave Leeds, Willy Gnonto is expected to stay at Elland Road this summer, according to Leeds Live, with fans hoping he can replicate the delights of his initial season with the Yorkshire club.

Keeping players like Bamford on board is critical for the club to demonstrate their commitment to be a promotion contender while also providing depth in case of injury.
