Northern Ireland’s Jonny Evans has retired from international football.

Manchester United center-back played more than 100 times for the nation and is considered one of their best defenders.

Jonny Evans of Northern Ireland has retired from international football after more than 100 caps for his country and a successful career that includes reaching the European Championships’ round of 16.
The Manchester United centre-back made 107 appearances for Northern Ireland before making his senior debut with the Red Devils in 2006.

In his debut, the Belfast-born player helped Northern Ireland defeat Spain in 2006. He was a key member of the team for many years, particularly at Euro 2016, when they advanced from the group stage before being eliminated by Wales, with Evans starting all four games.

Evans also helped Northern Ireland reach the World Cup playoffs in 2017, where they lost narrowly to the Czech Republic.

Evans will be remembered as one of his country’s best footballers, and many consider him Northern Ireland’s greatest defender.

Evans agreed to a one-year contract extension with United in his second stay at the club this summer, and he will now focus on that in what may be his final season in professional football.
