Martin Zubimendi has ‘decided against’ a transfer to Liverpool this summer and will remain with Real Sociedad.

And the fans will have to wait for a lot longer, as The Athletic’s David Ornstein claimed the midfielder has turned down the Reds’ offers.

Both Liverpool and Real Sociedad anticipated the deal to go through, with Slot’s club ready to activate his £51 million release clause, but Ornstein believes the Spain international ‘has opted against a trade to Anfield’.

Richard Hughes, the Reds’ sporting director, was informed of Zubimendi’s refusal on Monday, and the team is now starting over.
