Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are apparently set to face off again after both Premier League clubs were linked with a move for Dutch defender Jayden Oosterwolde.

The Magpies remain interested in Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, despite the Selhurst Park club rejecting the latest of four offers for the England defender. In the aftermath of Saturday’s home win against Southampton, United boss Eddie Howe provided nothing in the way of an update on the pursuit of the former Chelsea man, but did imply that Fabian Schar’s red card could force a more immediate move into the transfer market.

Newcastle United and Crystal Palace are reportedly set to clash again after both Premier League teams were connected with a move for Dutch defender Jayden Oosterwolde.

The Magpies are still interested in Palace centre-back Marc Guehi, despite the club rejecting the latest of four proposals for the England defender. Following Saturday’s home win over Southampton, United manager Eddie Howe provided no update on the pursuit of the former Chelsea player, but did suggest that Fabian Schar’s red card could force a more rapid move into the transfer market.

Speaking to The Gazette, he said: “Of course, we’re looking in the transfer market; we have some time left and we’ll see what we can do.” That occurred just over 24 hours after the former Bournemouth boss revealed his plans to strengthen his defensive ranks during the last 12 days of the summer transfer window. When asked if defensive additions may be made in his pre-match press conference, he stated: “Possibly – but I think the conditions have to be right for us, and as I said on Friday, we can’t do anything that goes against the long-term good of the football club.” So, we’ll attempt to make the correct decision.”

There have been reports that further talks between Newcastle and Palace are planned as they try to reach an agreement on bringing Guehi to St James Park – but an intriguing new twist has emerged, with reports in Turkey claiming both clubs are interested in Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde. The 23-year-old joined the Istanbul giants from Parma for £4 million in January 2023, and he has since made over 50 Super Lig appearances. He has started for Jose Mourinho’s side in both of their opening league games, starting at centre-back in a 1-0 win over Adana Demirspor and switching to left-back in a 2-2 draw with Goztepe on Saturday.

According to Turkish news outlet Aslinda, interest in Oosterwolde puts Fenerbahce at risk of ‘losing another vital player’ as they continue to negotiate a deal with Brighton and Hove Albion to bring Euro 2024 star Ferdi Kadioglu to the Amex Stadium. Newcastle and Palace are claimed to have’requested an appointment’ with the Turkish club to discuss a prospective deal for Oosterwolde, with Fenerbahce expected to require a fee of approximately £20 million for the former FC Twente star.
