Nagelsmann terminated the contest prior to its commencement.

Longtime captain and top goalkeeper Manuel Neuer confirmed his retirement from international competition following EURO 2024. Although the Bayern Munich legend will always be regarded as unique, German head coach Julian Nagelsmann is required by law to play someone in the position.

Before the international break, Nagelsmann stated in an interview (via @iMiaSanMia) that Marc-André (ter Stegen) was the new number one. He has been Barcelona’s captain for a number of years and is unquestionably the best player there. He treats us the same way. I do not wish to inadvertently inflame the rivalry behind him. Oliver Baumann had a great season the previous year and performed admirably at the European Championship.

Last year, Alexander Nübel had a strong performance in Stuttgart as well. Bernd Leno and Kevin Trapp are in the open battle behind him. Determining which is the top priority is crucial.

It makes sense that Marc-André ter Stegen receives the starting nod since he has been Germany’s backup goalkeeper behind Neuer for a number of years. However, Nagelsmann made the sensible decision to name Nübel, a Bayern loanee, Baumann, Trapp, and Leno as possible future choices.
