Sven Goran Eriksson, the legendary football manager, dies at the age of 76 after battling cancer.

Sven-Goran Eriksson, 76, the legendary football manager, has passed away.
A statement on his official website announced that he died on Monday morning, surrounded by family.

The Swede, who had been battling cancer, was the first foreign manager of the English national team, overseeing 67 matches from 2001 to 2006.

Eriksson’s managing career extended more than four decades, beginning with Degerfors IF in Sweden before taking over IFK Gothenburg when he was 30 years old.

He was an enormous success, leading Gothenburg to the Swedish title and the Uefa Cup triumph in 1982.

His success in his home Sweden led to a move to Portuguese powerhouse Benfica.

He repeated his success, winning two league crowns and reaching another Uefa Cup final in 1983. This time he was on the losing end of a 2-1 aggregate defeat to Anderlecht.

Eriksson went on to play for Roma and Fiorentina before returning to Benfica in 1989, where he led the Lisbon club to another Portuguese title and the European Cup final in 1990, losing to AC Milan.

He had a huge success, leading Gothenburg to the Swedish championship and the Uefa Cup victory in 1982.

His prowess in his native Sweden prompted a move to Portuguese powerhouse Benfica.

He continued his success, winning two league titles and reaching another Uefa Cup final in 1983. This time, he lost 2-1 on aggregate to Anderlecht.

Eriksson went on to play for Roma and Fiorentina before returning to Benfica in 1989, where he led the Lisbon club to another Portuguese title and the 1990 European Cup final, which they lost to AC Milan.

He returned to the World Cup with Ivory Coast in 2010 and has also managed Manchester City and Leicester in addition to various other countries over the course of his long career.
