Scott McTominay of Manchester United is ‘on the verge’ of completing his Serie A deal.

Manchester United have reportedly agreed to trade Scott McTominay to Napoli.

McTominay has been heavily linked with a transfer away this summer, as he enters the final year of his contract at Manchester United.

While the club has the option to extend his contract by another year, they are willing to say goodbye before Friday’s transfer deadline.

Fulham were among McTominay’s suitors before failing to make a pair of offers and instead focusing on signing Sander Berge from Burnley.

McTominay’s admirers include Serie A club Napoli, who have stayed in talks despite failing to make a €25 million (£21.2 million) deal.

Napoli’s persistence has finally paid off, with The Athletic reporting that the Italian club has reached an agreement with Manchester United to buy McTominay.

According to the report, Manchester United have agreed to sell McTominay for €30 million (£25.4 million) and will receive a portion of any future sales.

The deal would allow Manchester United to sidestep any problems with the Premier League’s financial rules because selling the academy product would be recorded as pure profit.

According to reports, McTominay must still approve the trade before the two teams can proceed.

Giovanni Manna, Napoli’s sports director, has been in England negotiating the move and two other deals for the Italian club.

Manna is hoping to complete deals for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku and Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Billy Gilmour.

McTominay is about to terminate his 22-year affiliation with Manchester United, having advanced through the club’s junior system to reach the first squad.

The 27-year-old has appeared in 255 competitive appearances with the Red Devils, contributing 29 goals and eight assists.

McTominay made what could be his final game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, coming on as a 79th-minute replacement in a 2-1 defeat.

If he completes the transfer, McTominay will join Antonio Conte’s existing midfield alternatives, which include Stanislav Lobotka, Frank Anguissa, Gennaro Iaccarino, and Coli Saco.
