Manchester United signed Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.

Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui have joined Manchester United from Bayern Munich; Netherlands international centre-back De Light transfers to Old Trafford in a deal worth €50 million (£42.7 million), with an initial €45 million (£38.4 million) and €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons.

De Ligt’s transfer is valued €50 million (£42.7 million), with an initial €45 million (£38.4 million) plus €5 million (£4.3 million) in add-ons. The player will be eligible for United’s first Premier League encounter against Fulham on Friday, live on Sky Sports, after registering by midday on Thursday.

The 24-year-old Netherlands international centre-back has spent two seasons at Bayern after joining from Juventus, appearing 73 times and scoring five goals.

De Ligt also played for Man United manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax, when they won the Eredivisie in 2019.

The defender, who has also won league titles with Juventus and Bayern, said: “When I heard Manchester United wanted me, I was excited about the prospect of a fresh challenge at such a great club.

“In the meetings that followed, I was impressed by the vision that the football leadership laid forth, as well as the role they saw for me within it.

“Erik ten Hag helped mold the early parts of my career, so he understands how to get the most out of me, and I can’t wait to work with him again.

“I know what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and I’m determined to continue that record at this special club.”

De Ligt enhances United’s central defence following Raphael Varane’s departure, while fellow summer signing Leny Yoro is expected to miss up to three months due to a foot injury suffered against Arsenal in pre-season.

Full-back Mazraoui, 26, previously played for Ajax under Ten Hag. He won three league titles with the Dutch team and another with Bayern.

The Moroccan international has also made 28 appearances for his country and advanced to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals.

He has signed a four-year contract with an option for another year and arrives on the same day that full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s move to West Ham was announced.

Mazraoui stated: “It’s a fantastic feeling to be a Manchester United player, and I can’t wait to walk out at Old Trafford wearing the red shirt.

“I know that I’m joining the club at an exciting time; everyone I’ve spoken to has the same ambition for us to win trophies together and I can feel the determination to achieve that.”

Manchester United’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, stated, “Noussair is a dynamic, attacking full-back who can play on both the right and left sides of defence.” His experience and versatility will make him an invaluable addition to our team.

United’s focus will shift to midfield recruiting.
Following Mazraoui and De Ligt’s arrivals, United are anticipated to focus on midfield recruiting.

However, all possible incomings will be subject to budget and valuation.

The conversation with Paris Saint-Germain about Manuel Ugarte is still ongoing, but the French club has yet to lower its asking price.
United are being patient with a little over two weeks left in the market, knowing that PSG may need to sell and that the player is highly interested in moving to Old Trafford.

Personal terms are not expected to be an issue.

United are also looking at other midfielders, and conversations with Burnley are ongoing about Sander Berge, who missed Monday’s win against Luton due to injury.

Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana and Fiorentina’s Sofyan Amrabat are also considered options.

Due to budget constraints, United may need to sell in order to re-enter the market. There have been no new proposals for Scott McTominay, and Casemiro is expected to stay.
